AI as a Tool in the Architecture Process

AI4SWARC is a newly developed training course focused on the use of AI as a tool in the architecture process.
The central question is how AI‑based tools can concretely support architectural work — from requirements analysis to decisions and documentation.
The AI4SWARC module addresses the use of artificial intelligence as a tool to support the architecture process — in contrast to the SWARC4AI module, which deals with AI as part of the target architecture. The goal of the module is to enable architects and technical leaders to apply generative AI and other AI technologies in a targeted manner, making analysis, design, decision‑making, and documentation tasks more efficient and of higher quality in day‑to‑day architectural work. It also illustrates how architectural work can be rethought in light of current developments in the AI domain.
Participants gain orientation on how architectural work can be reconceptualized with the latest advancements in AI, including considerations of risks, traceability, as well as ethical and regulatory guidelines.

Participant Requirements

  • A solid understanding of software architecture as well as typical analysis, design, decision-making,
and documentation tasks in day-to-day architectural work.
  • Practical experience with requirements analysis and conceptual design, architectural documentation
(e.g., ADRs), as well as review and communication situations in a project context.
  • Willingness to use AI as a tool in the process and to critically evaluate results with regard to risks
    and traceability.

What Can You Expect?

You will receive practical insights into how AI‑supported analysis and decision‑making assistance can be used in the architecture process.
One of the main focuses is on generative AI for architectural documentation, for example for ADRs, models, and reviews.
Additionally, the training covers prompt engineering, agentic workflows, and automation ideas, as well as the responsible handling of risks, traceability, ethics, and regulatory requirements.

Your Added Value

  • You can classify and effectively use AI as an assistance system in the architecture process.
  • You gain confidence in AI‑supported analysis and decision‑making in everyday architectural work.
  • You learn how generative AI can support documentation and review situations.
  • You receive guidance on prompt engineering, agentic workflows, and automation in the architectural context.
  • You strengthen traceability and the handling of risks in AI‑assisted work.
  • You become familiar with key ethical and regulatory guidelines for its use in day‑to‑day project work.
